Why anxiety can become your baseline, even when life looks “fine.”

Most people assume things will feel better once sleep improves, the schedule settles, or life slows down a bit.
For parents, this often shows up during pregnancy, postpartum, or early caregiving.

For others, it follows long periods of stress, responsibility, or emotional load.

But when your nervous system has been operating on high alert for months or years, it doesn’t reset on its own.

It adapts.

That’s when anxiety, reactivity, and emotional distance quietly become the baseline,

even when life looks “fine” on the outside.

And this is often the moment people start searching for help, even if they don’t say it out loud yet.

You may recognize yourself here.

You feel more reactive.
More on edge.
Less patient than you expected yourself to be.

For many parents, this shows up during pregnancy, postpartum, or early caregiving, when the nervous system is under constant demand.

For others, it follows years of stress, emotional responsibility, caregiving, or being the one who holds everything together.

Some days you feel anxious and keyed up.
Other days you feel flat, disconnected, or not quite like yourself.

And you carry all of this quietly…
even around the people you love most.

If this feels familiar, you deserve support that goes deeper than coping. Schedule your Free Consultation.

If anxiety or overwhelm has been shaping your days, this might sound familiar:

• You’re holding it together all day, until one more small thing pushes you over the edge. Then comes the guilt, the mental replay, the quiet shame about how you wish you had handled it differently.

• You’re on all the time, juggling work, caregiving, routines, and the invisible mental load that never seems to shut off, with anxiety humming in the background.

• You fall into bed exhausted but wired, your mind still spinning through tomorrow’s to-do list and everything you didn’t get to today.

• You feel overstimulated and drained, like your system never gets a real pause. Even small things feel big when you’ve been stretched thin for too long.

• Or instead of feeling anxious, you feel numb, detached, or emotionally flat, going through the motions without feeling fully present or connected.

This is not a personal failure.

This is what happens when your nervous system has been on constant alert for too long.

Anxiety doesn’t always look dramatic. Sometimes it shows up as tension, irritability, emotional numbness, or feeling disconnected from yourself in a life you care deeply about.

For many parents, this begins during fertility challenges, pregnancy, postpartum, or early parenting, when the nervous system is under continuous demand with very little space to recover.

For others, these patterns develop after years of stress, caregiving, high responsibility, or being the one who keeps everything running. The details differ, but the nervous system response is often the same.

At Haven Wellness Therapy in Coachella Valley, I work with parents, parents-to-be, and adults who feel overwhelmed, reactive, or disconnected from themselves after long periods of stress or survival mode.

Together, we focus on calming the nervous system, easing anxiety, and interrupting patterns that no longer serve you—so you can feel more present, grounded, and able to respond with intention rather than reactivity.

Many people find their way here after searching for postpartum depression therapy, anxiety therapy, or a therapist near me in Palm Desert or Coachella Valley, CA. I also offer online therapy for clients across California.

You don’t have to be a parent to recognize these patterns.

Anxiety & Trauma Support

Many clients come to this work feeling anxious, on edge, or stuck in survival mode, even when life looks fine on the outside.
Anxiety and trauma often reflect how the body learned to stay safe under prolonged stress, not a personal failure or lack of insight.

Therapy focuses on interrupting these patterns so your body can begin to feel safer again.

    Adoption & Donor Conception Therapy

Support for individuals and parents navigating adoption or donor conception, including identity questions, grief, attachment concerns, and the emotional complexity of building a family in non-linear ways.

Choosing adoption or donor conception can hold many truths at once: hope, relief, uncertainty, love, and loss. Questions about belonging, disclosure, genetics, and attachment may surface before a child arrives or long into parenting.

Therapy offers a supportive space to slow down, process these layers, and work with the nervous system responses that often accompany family building shaped by loss, choice, or complexity. Together, we focus on building clarity, emotional steadiness, and intentional ways of showing up for yourself and your family.

You don’t have to carry this complexity alone. Support can help you move forward with more grounding, honesty, and care.

    Parenting & Family Therapy

Support for parents navigating anxiety, emotional overwhelm, and reactivity, especially when it feels like you’re holding everything together but still living on edge.

Parenting can amplify old stress patterns, especially when you’re caring for children with big emotions, sensitive nervous systems, or complex needs. Over time, survival-mode responses can start shaping how you react, communicate, and connect at home.

Therapy offers a supportive, non-judgmental space to work with anxiety regulation, emotional patterns, and family dynamics so your nervous system and your household can feel steadier, not just managed.

You don’t have to parent in survival mode. Support can help you respond with more clarity, connection, and intention.

    Pregnancy & Postpartum Therapy

Support for anxiety, depression, sleep disruption, identity shifts, and the emotional intensity that can come with pregnancy and early parenthood.

This season can bring constant worry, intrusive thoughts, irritability, emotional numbness, or a sense of being “on” all the time — even when things look fine on the outside. For some parents, anxiety won’t settle. For others, there’s a heaviness or disconnection they didn’t expect.

In therapy, we focus on calming the nervous system, making sense of emotional patterns, and easing the mental load that can make this season feel overwhelming. The goal isn’t to fix you — it’s to help you feel steadier, more present, and more like yourself again.

You don’t have to move through pregnancy or postpartum in survival mode. Support can help you build steadier rhythms for yourself and the family you’re growing.

    Fertility & Loss Support

Support for anxiety, grief, and emotional overwhelm during IVF, infertility, and pregnancy loss.

Trying to grow your family can feel like living in constant limbo; hoping, waiting, bracing, repeating. Some days feel manageable. Other days feel heavy, anxious, and exhausting to carry.

Whether you’re navigating fertility treatment, infertility, miscarriage, or pregnancy loss, therapy offers a steadier place to land. A space to slow down, regulate your nervous system, and process what this season is asking of you, without pressure to stay hopeful or move on before you’re ready.

You don’t have to hold all the uncertainty and grief by yourself. Support can help you feel more grounded as you move through this.

  • Minimal line drawing of an armchair on a beige circle background, representing family therapy and a supportive space for parents and caregivers.

    Couples & Relationship Therapy

For couples navigating disconnection, conflict, or emotional distance during pregnancy, postpartum, or parenting transitions.

Becoming parents stretches even the strongest relationships. Suddenly, everything shifts: your communication, your intimacy, your time, your sense of partnership.

If you’re feeling disconnected, stuck in conflict, or trying to rebuild closeness after a hard or anxious season, therapy offers a space to slow down and reconnect. Together, we’ll strengthen communication, reduce reactivity, and help you respond to each other with more safety and understanding.

You deserve a relationship that feels like a safe place to land, even in the messy moments.

Hi, I’m Sophie

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist | Coachella Valley & Online Across California

I work with parents, couples, and adults across Palm Desert and the Coachella Valley, and I offer online therapy throughout California, so you can begin from wherever you are.

Therapist sitting smiling in chair.

I know how heavy it can feel to hold everything together, the constant push to stay calm, keep up, and be everything at once. Parenthood changed me in ways I expected and in a few I didn’t. Through fertility treatments, pregnancy, postpartum recovery, and the invisible weight of trying to manage it all, I learned how much our nervous systems carry, and how easily survival patterns can become our baseline.

As both a therapist and someone who has navigated fertility treatment, parenting, and my own experience as an adoptee, I understand how family building can hold many truths at once: love and loss, hope and grief, belonging and uncertainty. In my work, I help people slow things down, regulate their nervous systems, and interrupt patterns shaped by long periods of stress, so they can find steadier ground in the middle of the messiness.

Therapy with me isn’t about fixing you. It’s about helping you feel more like yourself again, at your own pace, in your own way.

This is a space to breathe. To be real. To feel supported.

I care deeply about creating a space that feels steady, respectful, and real, where you don’t have to perform or explain yourself to be understood.

How Therapy Works at Haven Wellness

How Therapy Works at Haven Wellness *

A simple, steady process, so you always know what to expect.
Getting started doesn’t have to feel complicated or overwhelming. Here’s what it looks like:

  • We’ll briefly connect to talk about what’s bringing you here, what you’re hoping for, and whether working together feels like a good fit. This is a low-pressure space to ask questions and get a feel for how I work.

  • If we decide to move forward, you’ll receive access to a secure client portal where you can complete intake forms and handle scheduling and payment, at your own pace, before your first session.

  • Our work starts by slowing things down. We’ll focus on what your nervous system has been carrying, what patterns may be showing up, and what support looks like for you, not a one-size-fits-all plan.

  • Therapy isn’t static. As your needs shift, our work adjusts. We’ll continue building awareness, regulation, and steadier ways of responding, with room for real life, not perfection.
